Interdisciplinary Action-Minded Inspiration: How do you do it?

This week we welcomed a new student, William Sayles, to the Glasgow University team connected to the IN4RF project. In dialogue with William, I found out about the great contributions he will be able to make through his interdisciplinary background. William is studying on a dual degree program in Environmental GeoScience and Economics. He has worked on the Responsible Sustainability Management Committee, which aims to integrate sustainability education into the curriculum at the university. He has also been a volunteer at the National Park near Glasgow. We welcome you to the Impact Network for Regenerative Futures and look forward to hearing more about your contributions to the seed projects soon.

The Glasgow team include Dr. Lovleen Kushwah a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow. She shared with us some of the projects that she has been working on as she contiues to show support for the IN4RF work. Her research centres on international finance and macroeconomics, while her pedagogical work explores education for sustainability, mental well-being, and fostering active, lifelong, and self-regulated learning. Lovleen also volunteers as an integrative psychotherapist with mental health charities in the UK.

I am deeply committed to the belief that nurturing mental well-being, especially in young minds, is critical for advancing sustainability. A healthy mindset cultivates the pro-environmental behaviors necessary for sustainable practices—such as responsible resource consumption and minimizing ecological footprints. By fostering mental well-being, we shape future leaders capable of environmental stewardship, empowering them to champion sustainable lifestyles that protect our planet for generations to come.

Guided by values of humility, courage, freedom, dignity, congruence, and candor, I believe that being part of a nurturing community is vital for a fulfilling human experience.

Among many of the other projects I have already talked about in prior blogs about the great work the Glasgow University lecturer team is doing, Lovleen is also involved with the ‘Business and Sustainability Programme’ between the University of Glasgow and the Polytechnic University of Valencia, to be held in Valencia, Spain. Collaborations with lecturers and students across Europe will help support the interdisciplinary seed projects active across several campuses. I have been increasingly inspired by how well Lovleen and the Glasgow team have been able to create great action-minded initiatives with the interdisciplinary students at Glasgow University. Their efforts are a great example of how to collaborate, create connections, and take steps to try out new creative activities that can engage transformations in sustainability education. Thank you for all your support and inspiration.

How do you connect, collaborate, and create action with your team? Do you design events, weekly seminars, or online activities where you can share your ideas and find support for your work? Would you like to connect to a network of action-minded, interdisciplinary lecturers and students in different international locations?
