Last week we had the great pleasure of meeting with Birgitta Nordén an educational developer at Malmö University. Birgitta told us about the wonderful work she has been doing on several programs, including the New Young Master’s Programme in sustainability that works with young students to engage in sustainability challenges. We will be following the students to apply the sustainability competence mindset map with this international young student group. We would like to thank Birgitta for this opportunity to collaborate and look forward to learning from this wonderful environment of young students.
We also met with associate professor Anne-Kathrin Peters at KTH university who reached out to ask us to supply a workshop event with teachers in a climate network for teaching for sustainble development. The network is newly formed and run by Anne-Katrin and Cecilia Enberg, an associate professor at Linköping university. We will provide the opportunity to use our platform as a place where everyone can share their work, resources and information about sustainability education and connect to each other for new inspirations. We look forward to engaging with the network and providing support wherever we can.
It was our great pleasure to also meet with associate professor Ola Leifler, lecturer in computer and information science at Linköping University, who told us about his work with teacher training and a new research project that is working with gamification in schools across Sweden. Ola explained that his aim is to facilitate ‘doing’ practical activities in order to build capacity for sustainability challenges. We discussed the approach of hosting conversations to transform mindsets towards caring about the complex challenges we experience. This emotional challenge is not normally taught in many disciplines in higher education, which is why we need support from an interdisciplinary approach. We will share Ola’s project on our site soon.
Thank you to everyone who has shared they great work and who have connected with us to continue collaborative efforts towards transforming sustainability education. This week we reflect on the questions that have emerged and inspired by our talk witheveryone this week: What discomforts do you experience with sustainability education? How can we help to support your education activities or project, or research in sustainability transformations? Get in contact, and we can provide a space for workshops, presentations, resource sharing and project/research dissemination or networks for collaboration.
