Since the symposium we have been very busy with some work to collaborate on a paper about using the futuring method in pedagogical activities in education. We have been working with participants of the workshop we held at the symposium to gather reflections and practical applications of the methods discussed at the event last February. We would like to thank Liisi Pajula at the University of Tartu in Estonia, Beatriz Amann at Istituto Europeo di Design Madrid in Spain, Vasiliki Kioupi at University of Leeds in the UK, coordinating professor Benedita Malheiro at ISEP, Polytechnic of Porto & INESC TEC in Portugal, Senior lecturer in statistics Priyantha Wijayatunga and Agneta Bränberg senior lecturer in applied physics and electronics both at Umeå University. Your contributions have been really enriching when listening to the experiences through different disciplinary perspectives.
Since the symposium, I have also continued my work with the HEDS course that provides space for co-creation and learning as facilitators of sustainability education. The group of lecturers that I am facilitating are also diverse in discipline, experience and approach to sustainability education. We have been working with different applications and didactic approaches discussing the feasibility, practicalities and emotional aspects of learning through the sustainability science approach. Thank you to Carina Fasth, Anders Reinholdt and Steven Curtis at Lund University, Wen Zhong at Linköping University, Pia Uvenblad at Halmstad university, Birgitta Norden at Malmö University, and Thale Tveita at Inland Norway University of Applied Science. As we explore deeper into the didactics of sustainability education we create innovative ideas for future teaching challenges.
This week we have also been talking with lecturers Michele Gemunden and Marion Lehener at the teacher development department at ETH Zurich. They are beginning their journey to integrate sustainability education in courses and programs across disciplines. Michelle has been following the HEDS course and has reached out to investigate further how to incorporate the sustainability competencies across disciplines in order to support her colleagues in the student-centred approach. Welcome to the project Michelle and Marion, we look forward to hearing more about your experiences and how sustainability education transforms in Switzerland.
Reflection questions this month: who are the sustainability leaders of education in your institution? Are you interested in a Nordic collaboration project that could take your teaching to the next level? Are you willing to share your innovative and creative ideas with others so that we can build equity in sustainability education across Europe?
