Happy Winter Break Everyone!

Happy holidays to all! As the winter holiday season approaches, we wanted to take a moment to thank you all for your participation in our project this year. From the inspiring conversations and acts of kindness to the moments of laughter and joy, we are grateful to have been a part of it all.

This year we have met so many people who are actively seeking support in a group like this ESD community to be able to do more for our students. We are now talking with several universities to help provide support for teachers across Sweden. There have been requests for workshops, where we have worked with the universities to develop and adapt our workshops to the university needs. Click on our Offers page to learn more and sign up or get in contact if you would like to use this service at your university.

Together we have explored and co-created new teaching activities, events and tools regarding education for sustainability. We are delighted to have experienced an atmosphere that many want to transform education towards sustainability by actively bringing in the student perspective. We would like to hear more about your experiences and, as a winter gift, invite you to share your experience of ESD work on our co-creation page.

Belonging to the group is signing up to become a part of the future, so invite your friends and colleagues to join. If you join now you can get the support you need to advance your education for sustainability for next term. Now is a good time to apply for a questionnaire to provide information about your students’ sustainability competence. You can sign up for any of your spring classes or make the assessment now and be able to design your class based on what the student group knows.

As the year draws to an end, our article has been published online for early view, so you can also download the article to read more about our assessment:

Annelin, A. and Boström, G.-O. (2022), “An assessment of key sustainability competencies: a review of scales and propositions for validation”, International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education, Vol. ahead-of-print No. ahead-of-print. https://doi-org.proxy.ub.umu.se/10.1108/IJSHE-05-2022-0166

Since so many of you have participated in using the sustainability competence assessment tool, you have all made it possible for us to evaluate the questionnaire. Thank you all, very much for your contributions, whether big or small. We will have a first draft of our follow-up paper that empirically tests the questionnaire for reliability and validity within a business school setting. We have tested the questionnaire between modules, different programs and across the last three years. We will also attend the European Symposium on Sustainability in Business Education, Research and Practices in February to present our findings, so we look forward to meeting more engaging and inspiring ESDers in Liverpool, England soon.

We hope you have a wonderful holiday season. Thank you for being a part of our community and for making this a great year. From both of us here in northern Sweden, we wish you a very happy holiday season and a sustainable new year.
